McPherson Opera House Company
Our History
The McPherson Opera House Preservation Company was formed in 1986 to save the Opera House from demolition.
Many in the community felt the project was futile, seeing only an empty, worn building whose facade was in danger of collapse.
The original founders of the McPherson Opera House Preservation Company are the true heroes of the Opera House story. They saw beyond what the building was to what it once again could be.
Their thousands of hours of volunteer labor and steadfast perseverance in the face of countless crises are a testament to what a small group of dedicated visionaries can accomplish.
In 2004, the Board of Directors voted to change the name from McPherson Opera House Preservation Company to McPherson Opera House Company. A victory had been won: the building was preserved, and now it was time to look to the future.
